Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that improves skin barrier function by enhancing cell metabolism. This means it creates a lot of good activity within the deeper layers of the skin. Such as increased ceramides which play a key role in the structure of the lipid barrier that keeps the skin moisturised and protected, accelerated cell renewal and collagen production which improves skin texture and firmness.

Niacinamide also regulates sebum production which is beneficial for oily or acne-prone skin types as it helps prevent breakouts and minimise enlarged pores.

For those experiencing premature ageing niacinamide contains powerful antioxidants that speed up cell repair from free radical damage that leads to wrinkles, sagging and hyperpigmentation whilst protecting the skin from future damage.

Niacinamide has been shown to reduce pigmentation marks and dark spots by reducing the pigment transfer from the melanocyte (pigment cell) to epidermal cells.

It’s also worth noting that niacinamide rates a level A for evidence of substantiated clinical data. A higher rating than retinoids and green tea, which scored a level B.
