Camellia seed oil is an elegant botanical oil with a soft, silky character. Rich in unsaturated fatty acids, particularly oleic acid, it makes an excellent emollient - and in a cleansing oil, that beautiful slip is especially useful.

We use Camellia oleifera seed oil in Unveil Oil-to-Milk Cleansing Oil, where it helps the formula move effortlessly over dry skin while dissolving makeup, sunscreen and daily grime.

What does camellia seed oil do for skin?

Its primary role is to soften and condition. The fatty-acid profile gives it a smooth, cushioning feel, while naturally occurring tocopherols and polyphenolic compounds contribute to its antioxidant profile.

That makes it particularly pleasant on dry or mature skin, but it is not limited to those skin types. In Unveil the oil is part of an emulsifying cleanser, so the oil phase combines with water and rinses away rather than remaining as a heavy layer.

Why put it in a cleanser?

Makeup, sunscreen, sebum and many everyday impurities contain oil-soluble components. An oil cleanser helps dissolve them, which is why the texture and spreadability of the oil phase matter so much. Camellia gives Unveil excellent slip, allowing you to massage it across the face without dragging the skin.

We combine it with safflower and Kalahari melon seed oils, balancing camellia's softer character with lighter oils. Add water and the blend transforms into a fine milky emulsion that rinses cleanly away.
